The NAD+ category solved its transparency problem and kept its formulation problem. Most premium brands now print every dose on the label — which means the old advice, "avoid proprietary blends," no longer separates a good formula from a lazy one. The label is honest now. The dose is still 300 mg, the co-factors are still missing, and the apigenin is still 5 mg. This guide gives you seven checks that work on any NAD+ bottle, explains what each one is for, and shows how CELLUNAD+ scores against them. Five years ago the single most useful thing you could do with an NAD+ label was check whether the doses were listed. Blends hid everything. That fight is mostly won at the premium end of the category: doses are printed, and you can read them.
What did not change is what the doses are. A brand can disclose 250 mg of NR, 50 mg of TMG, and 10 mg of apigenin in perfect compliance and still be selling a formula built for the front of the bottle. Disclosure tells you what is in the capsule. It does not tell you whether any of it is enough to matter. The seven checks below are about that second question.
The label should say exactly which NAD+ precursor it uses: nicotinamide riboside (NR), nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), or a form of niacin. "NAD+ precursor complex" or "NAD+ booster blend" without a named molecule is a label that does not want to be checked.
Both NR and NMN are lawful dietary ingredients. NR has the longer record of published human pharmacokinetic and tolerability data; NMN's research base is growing. Age Revive uses NR for the evidence reason, not a regulatory one — the comparison is in NMN vs NR.

For NR, the published human trials used 100, 300, and 1,000 mg (single doses, Trammell 2016); 1,000 mg/day for six weeks (Martens 2018); and 100, 300, and 1,000 mg/day for eight weeks (Conze 2019). Blood NAD+ rose dose-dependently across that range, and the lowest daily dose with a clear response in Conze 2019 was 300 mg.
So the honest floor is 300 mg/day. Below that, the formula is relying on an assumption the trials do not support. Above 1,000 mg there is no additional human data.

NAD+ is consumed continuously. Every consumption event releases nicotinamide, and one of the body's routes for clearing surplus nicotinamide spends a methyl group. Supplying more precursor plausibly raises that methyl demand. This is a mechanistic hypothesis, not a proven human outcome — but it is the reason methylation co-factors belong in the formula, and it is why "TMG with your NAD+" became standard advice.
Here is the part the advice usually skips: TMG (betaine) feeds only one of the two routes that recycle homocysteine back to methionine. The other route needs methylfolate and vitamin B12. Vitamin B6 handles the exit route. A complete set is four ingredients:

What decoration looks like: TMG at 25–50 mg and nothing else. Or "B-vitamin complex" with folic acid and cyanocobalamin.
Most formulas think about NAD+ as a supply problem: add precursor, get more NAD+. But NAD+ is also being spent, and one of the larger spenders is CD38, an enzyme whose activity has been reported to rise with age.
Apigenin — a flavonoid found in chamomile, parsley, and celery — has been studied for CD38 inhibition. Escande 2013 showed apigenin inhibited CD38 activity in vitro and reported effects on NAD+ levels in mouse models. That is preclinical work; there is no human trial establishing what an oral apigenin dose does to CD38 in people, and any brand claiming apigenin "blocks CD38" or "protects your NAD+" is overstating it. The honest framing is that apigenin is a flavonoid researched for CD38 management, included in a formula to address the consumption side rather than ignore it.

NAD+ does its main work inside mitochondria, moving electrons through the reactions that turn fuel into usable energy. A formula that supports NAD+ metabolism and adds a cofactor for the mitochondrial environment is thinking about the whole system rather than one molecule.
R-lipoic acid is the naturally occurring form of alpha-lipoic acid (the "R" designates the enantiomer the body makes) and is included in CELLUNAD+ at 200 mg to support mitochondrial oxidative balance. It is not the headline ingredient; it is a cofactor, and it is listed as one.

Read the full ingredient panel, not just the front. A surprising number of "NAD+ energy" products include caffeine, green tea extract for caffeine, theacrine, or a "natural energy blend." That is a spike sold as a foundation — the exact thing an NAD+ formula is supposed to replace.
An NAD+ precursor does not produce a feeling. It supports a coenzyme. If a bottle promises you will feel it in an hour, something else in the capsule is doing that.
What decoration looks like: "Feel the difference in days." The ingredient making that possible is caffeine.
"Third-party tested" is a phrase. A certificate of analysis is a document: a lab name, an accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025 is the standard for testing laboratories), a lot number, and a tested value against the label claim. If a brand says it tests and cannot show you one, treat the phrase as decoration too.
Glass packaging is a related signal — not a proof of quality, but a sign a brand made a more expensive decision when a cheaper one was available.

None of these is fraudulent. All of them are incomplete. The question is whether you want to assemble the missing pieces yourself from four more bottles, or buy one formula that already did.

What should I look for in an NAD+ supplement? A named precursor at a dose within the published human range (300–1,000 mg/day for NR); all four methylation co-factors in active forms (TMG, 5-MTHF, methylcobalamin, P-5-P); something addressing NAD+ consumption (apigenin is the researched flavonoid); a mitochondrial cofactor; no stimulants; and a published lot certificate.
Is a complete NAD+ formula better than taking NR alone? "Better" has not been tested head-to-head in humans. The case for a complete formula is mechanistic: NAD+ turnover creates methylation demand and NAD+ is consumed by CD38, and a single-ingredient precursor addresses neither. It is a formulation decision, not a proven outcome.
Do I need TMG with an NAD+ supplement? No human trial establishes it. The mechanism is plausible, and including methylation co-factors is a low-risk formulation choice. If a formula includes TMG, check that it also includes methylfolate, B12, and B6 — TMG alone covers one of two remethylation routes.
